I wonder what the best goalie combinations would be, say 10-12 million budget

Price - 10.5
Vanacek - 1.0
Kahkonen - 1.0

Driedger - 4.0
Sorokin - 4.0
Kahkonen - 1.0

Throw Bishop(5.0) Korpisalo(2.8) and Grubauer (6.0 UFA) into that mix also

I can't see it. Lots of (surprising) options for them in goal. It's already been "prophesized" that they're gonna go with Driedger (and that he will sign) for one of their goaltender spots, but there's also Vanecek, Kakhonen, Bishop, DeSmith, & Holtby sitting out there who are all either younger and/or more affordable, and are probably better "tandem" options if Seattle does land Driedger, etc.

Kakhonen is especially appealing I would think, as he's waivers exempt, and could be sent down and called up without fear. Daccord in Ottawa, and Berdin in Winnipeg are also appealing options in that regard, I would think, but as far as experience vs upside, Kakhonen has the edge if that's of any concern to Francis.

Maybe go with Driedger, Kakhonen, and Bishop (for the experience). (?) Holtby works on that front, too, but I like some of Vancouver's forward options better.

Sorokin is not available.

I think you need to take Price here. He will immediately make them an above average team. Think Fleury with Vegas. I know his cap hit is high - but looking at all the other bargains that are available, it's hardly an issue.

But what happens after 3 years when he inevitably declines?

Won't be able to flip him - he has both a $10.5M contract and an NMC.

Team needs to build to get better - not be saddled with an immovable contract. They won't be winning any Cups in the next 3 years...

I mean, Price could waive to chase a cup in 3 years.

Also, Freidman said they could trade Price back with retained salary to Montreal. Pretty sure Montreal would pay something for Prices contract to become 8 million.

Then what's the point of taking him in the first place, only to trade him back and keep salary?

If he didn't have the NMC it might be doable. But that poison pill means they would be stuck with him for 5 years - 5 years they are not likely to win the Cup.

And I heard somewhere that Price is owed an $11M bonus in Sep. Doubt Seattle wants to dish that out either...

The cost of Bishop Dreiger and Kahkkonen is CHEAPER than Price ALONE! No chance they take Price. Besides, I’d be more interested in Drouin from Montreal anyway. With Kahkkonen being waiver exempt and Bishop with Inknow ready for start from season they’re covered in goal and can be confident in running Dreiger and Kahkkonen until then. No brainer imo.

100% yup on the goalie front. I think Seattle does with Kulak or Fleury, though. Kulak has the positive analytics Seattle's going for.

Fleury is 36 and just won the Vezina, Price is 33 and is a better goalie. You've got 4 years of that deal you can count of some really good play, which means you also have 4 years to draft and groom an eventual replacement

Price is better right now than all those goalies, which means you have a better chance to win now and for the next few years with Price in net

Most of the guys the Kracken draft are likely to be here for a good time and not a long time. They need someone marketable that can be their initial face of the franchise. Based on who's available and be honest, who would that really be? Yanni Gourde?

Fleury was that guy for Vegas right down to him being the final pick and being present for the actual televised expansion draft. There is a lot to that from a marketing perspective

2 goals in 44 games making 5.5 million and he went crying home because of personal problems and missed the entire Stanley cup playoffs. That's the guy you are more interested in?

According to Seravalli Price has a potentially long term hip injury. Lebrun reporting it as knee. Going to a specialist this week.

Wednesday is the day. We can debate pros and cons all we like but guaranteed Francis will do his homework on any possible injuries and should be interesting to see how he constructs this team coming out of the gate.

Driedger from Florida would be pretty good I’d say.

Danault from Montreal
McCann from Toronto
Dunn from St.Louis
Duchene from Nashville
Eberle from NY Islanders
Domi from Columbus
Pettersson (or Zucker) from Pittsburgh

I’ll check some more options

I think honestly looking at it I’d think the Kraken will likely grab three solid vets. Definitely Giordano on defence. Maybe a goalie. Could see Dreidger and Kaapo and Vanecek, or replace one of with Price, Bishop, or Quick. Go the first 3 opens up to add a couple high priced up front in the forward ranks.

I wouldn’t be that surprised Francis already has a few trades worked out in certain names too.

Wed morning cant come quick enough.

Cmon MTL is lying. Weber and Price just happen to both have career threatening injuries ahead of the ED.

Based on the player unprotected lists and the fact that the NHL Pacific Division Is the worst division In the league currently I don't think Seattle will have any trouble qualifying for the playoffs In there Inaugural season.

Seattle must stay away from Price and MAF.
